ACL Chosen to Participate in the Affordable Housing Work Group of the Medicaid Redesign Team

It is our pleasure to announce that ACL has been chosen as a participant in the Affordable Housing Work Group of the Medicaid Redesign Team. We do not know yet who else was invited but we assume the list will be released in the next few days.

Although we certainly understand the vast majority of the issues, please feel free to send us any information/suggestions/comments that you think are important to this initiative.

This work group was originally called the Supportive Housing Work Group but has recently been re-named the Affordable Housing Work Group. It specifically relates to MRT Proposal #196: “To establish a supportive housing program to prevent inappropriate nursing home placement.” From the description of the goals of the group – below and in the attachment – the goal has been expanded to include any institutional placement, a good thing.

MRT STATEMENT: This work group will develop a statewide plan for increasing access to affordable housing, so that New York State Medicaid beneficiaries are not forced into institutional settings because they cannot access affordable housing.
• The plan should be multi-year, and the team should identify options for financing the construction.
• The work group will discuss and provide input regarding assisted living redesign.
• The work group will consult with New York City and other governments.
• Co-Chairs – James Introne and Ed Matthews
